About this data

  • Hispanic or Latino origin is an ethnicity the Census Bureau asks separately from race. A person of any race can be Hispanic or Latino, so this page is not a race table.
  • Hispanic or Latino share is that origin count divided by total population in the same area, using the unrounded ACS estimates.
  • Total population is controlled to Census population estimates for every area, so there is no sampling margin of error on that column. The plugin shows a dash.
  • Hispanic or Latino counts are controlled (no sampling margin of error) in 26 of the 52 published areas. The other 26 have a 90 percent margin of error.
  • A median of state shares is not a national Hispanic share. The national figure would weight each area by population. Adding the 52 Hispanic counts also does not produce an official United States total: Puerto Rico is included here, and these are ACS period estimates.
  • The Census published 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. None of the Hispanic or Latino counts were suppressed.
  • Puerto Rico is in the ranking and table. Alaska and Hawaii appear on the ranking; on the map they are shown in inset.
